Stirling Council public engagement events to take place as work begins on Bridge of Allan Flood Protection Scheme
Public engagement events about the upgrade to Bridge of Allan’s Flood Protection Scheme have been arranged for August as work on the major project gets underway.
An online session is being held on Monday 17 August (6.30-7.30pm) where Stirling Council officers and representatives from the appointed contractor, Balfour Beatty, will be available to answer questions about the project. An in-person event will also take place on Tuesday 18 August at Bridge of Allan Library (2.30- 4.30pm).
The new infrastructure will protect 87 properties and 700 metres of road from flooding from the Allan Water, with flood defence walls upgraded along Allanvale Road, Cornton Road and Fountain Road, and flood defence bunds added at Inverallan Road and the adjacent factory site.
In total, £16 million of funding for the scheme will be provided by the Scottish Government as part of the national programme, ‘Funding of Flood Scheme Protections’, with the remainder coming from Stirling Council. It is expected to be completed by winter 2027.
A number of localised traffic control measures will take effect in August to facilitate the ongoing works:
- Inverallan Road and Henderson Street will have 3-way traffic lights put in place from Monday 10 August for two weeks
- Allanvale Road (Cornton Road to Union Street) will be fully closed from Monday 24 August until 27 January 2027. Local residential access will be maintained throughout this period.
- Cornton Road southbound (Fire Station to Orchard Road) will be closed from Monday 10 August until early 2027 as part of the first of three phases of work to this section of the Flood Protection Scheme.
A temporary road at Lyon Crescent is being constructed to maintain local access.

“I’m pleased to see work starting at the site on this vital project which will help protect homes and businesses against the devastating impacts of flooding which is becoming increasingly common and more severe with climate change.
“While disruption on a project of this scale and complexity is unavoidable, working with the contractor, we will do all we can to minimise this for the local community.
