On the 18th of June we held our AGM and elected our position holders. Our long serving Chair Mike gave his annual report which can be read below. Mike has been Chair since 2017 and has served the community with passion and dedication. The Community Council Members thank Mike for his leadership and guidance over this time.
Good evening seems like no time at all since the previous AGM and I guess at my age time does slip by ever rapidly.
Seems to me to have been a year when we fully recovered from the trials and tribulations of be inquorate early 2023 and have grown in strength and stature as the locally elected representative body in the Village.
We have in my view increased our profile and credibility through the invaluable input of our Comms Group and the leadership of Anna providing up to date news and information to the residents.
The Xmas lights annual event is now fully established and funded thanks to the working group and the local traders and the partnership support of the Friends.
We intervened on the surprise sale of greenspace on Sunnylaw road by calling a public meeting and establishing a local action group resulting in the final purchase of the land for the Community through local benefactors and subsequent management by the local Development trust.
The requirement by Stirling Council and the Scottish Government to create a Local Place Plan which will feed into the Strategic L.D.P has been at the forefront of input on our Planning agenda and is fronted by Amanda and Inga in partnership with Discover Bridge of Allan. Following a successful intervention at the Civic Panel clarifying the targeting of our Common Good Fund resources.
Local Planning is always on our agenda, and we have objected as and when appropriate e.g. on the redevelopment of the former Eagleton hotel and the Blairforkie Drive housing development and issues such as the future of the Royal Hotel and the former Police Station will no doubt be high on our future agenda.

World Textile Day will be back in Bridge of Allan
Come along to the Parish Hall on Keir Street this Saturday – June 1st from 10 am to 4 pm.
World Textile Day Scotland has been running since 2012 and Diane and Magie the organisers have been at each and every one but this year they are retiring, and so this will be the very last World Textile Day organised by them. It will mark the end of a hugely enjoyable adventure.
In the morning at 11 am Gaynor Williams will be giving a talk called βTextile Animal Trappings β Celebration and Enduranceβ with lots of examples from her large collection of textiles which are used to decorate animals β donkeys, horses, cattle, camels and even elephants.
In the afternoon at 2pm there will be two short talks. The first by Magie Relph will be a look back on her textile career with βA funny thing happened on the way to the market: Africa, fabrics and life on the roadβ. This will be followed by Diane Gaffneyβs talk about one of her very favourite places to shop βFrom the Artisans of Java to the Quilters of Scotland β the story of Bali Batiksβ.
Fair Trade Market
The traders are Susan Briscoe (Japanese sashiko, threads and fabrics), The African Fabric Shop (batik, beads and baskets), Textile Traders (clothes, ikats, batiks and jewellery from SE Asia), The Nomadβs Tent of Edinburgh β world famous traders in rugs and textiles, John and Joan Fisher with their amazing collection of Egyptian appliqued tent hangings Karen Haggis with wonderful Textiles of Nepal, Rosalind Johansson from Orkney with lovely Peruvian textiles and Jim Gaffney with his Textile Treasures (antique and collectible treasures)
Tickets for the talks will be available on the door.
The local WI will be providing plentiful refreshments throughout the day.
The organisers Diane and Magie say βAs always we will have an array of wonderful textiles from many parts of the world for sale. Come and enjoy this very special small show with textile experts on hand to answer any questions you may have and to tempt you with a fantastic market place of clothes, textiles, fabrics, tools, beads and much more. World Textile Days are always a great opportunity to meet up once a year with your fabric loving friends. Sit down, have a cup of tea and a chat and enjoy shopping for some unique finds.β
