Funding Opportunities
“Good afternoon,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you directly, but I was wondering if you could help us to promote two community charity schemes in your local area.
These are very difficult times and as local communities take action to contain the outbreak of Covid-19, Persimmon Homes is keenly aware that the charity sector is experiencing particular hardship.
With this in mind, we wanted to share details of two amazing charity schemes that Persimmon is actively operating, which will see millions of pounds handed out to groups supporting – specifically the under-18s and people aged over 70.
I’m emailing to ask if you can help us to promote the two schemes to your local residents. 8848 is Persimmon’s PR agency and we work closely with them to publicise the schemes and attract as many applications as possible.
Building Futures
Persimmon’s Charitable Foundation has this week committed to relaunching its Building Futures scheme for 2020. As part of its sponsorship of Team GB, Persimmon will donate more than £1 million to support children in sport, health and education.
We are calling on local groups within your area which support children to apply. It can all be done online remotely at www.persimmonhomes.com/building-futures.
Community Champions
Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative has run since 2015 and gives away £64,000 every month in single donations up to the value of £1,000. So far over £3.5 million has been donated in the UK.
Persimmon has decided that from April 2020 all funding will go directly to groups supporting the over 70s.
However, we need your help to find these groups. If you know of any, can you let them know that funding is available? Again, they can apply online at www.persimmonhomes.com/community-champions

Latest First Bus Information
An update from First bus regarding bus services:
“At First Scotland East, we recognise the importance buses play in our customers’ lives, not least in making sure that those who need to make essential journeys, like health service and emergency workers, can continue to do so. This is a dynamic and fast-moving situation. We are working with Government, local authorities and partners to reassess demand for our services in the light of the latest advice. Whilst doing our utmost to maintain services for our customers, we do expect to have to make further changes to our timetables as the situation evolves.
For now, and with effect from Monday 23 March, First Scotland East will commence operation of a non-semester timetable. Full details of these timetables are now online and we would encourage customers to keep a close eye on our website for the very latest information.

Glen Road User Survey – Please take a moment to complete
A community-led project is conserving the old Glen Road path between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan for local residents and visitors. Volunteers have raised £38k from grants and generous public donations for stabilisation and drainage work. Heavy rain will continue to cause landslips but we will make every effort to maintain this popular active travel route for residents and visitors.
The funders now require information on current use, so please:

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is committed to support the voluntary sector through the coronavirus pandemic. Help & advice for employees
Citizens Advice Scotland has created a section on their website with lots of useful information for employees who have been impacted by coronavirus, which covers everything from bills to benefits.
Look after your mental wellbeing
It’s always important to look after your mental health, but even more so at times like these when we are all faced with uncertainty and isolation. The Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) also has a dedicated web page with resources to help people maintain good mental health during the ongoing pandemic, including blogs, guided meditation and a wellbeing assessment tool.
Funding for organisations
Various funds have been announced recently to help organisations deal with the impact of coronavirus on services:
- Third Sector Resilience Fund – a £20m emergency fund for charities, community groups, social enterprises and voluntary organisations which find themselves in financial difficulties directly as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
- Community Response, Recovery & Resilience Fund – the National Emergencies Trust has set up a Coronavirus Appeal to raise funds for local charities and grassroots organisations that can provide vital support – funds for Scottish organisations will be distributed by Foundation Scotland.
- Creative Scotland – three funding programmes have been launched to help provide further support to sustain the country’s creative community impacted by coronavirus.
- CAF Coronavirus Emergency Fund – grants of up to £10,000 to help smaller organisations to continue to deliver much needed support.

Scotland Cares volunteer campaign
A new ‘Scotland Cares’ campaign has been launched to encourage people to volunteer during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
While the most important ask for the public remains to stay at home and follow the essential public health guidance, people who are healthy and not at risk can volunteer to provide practical or emotional help to those most in need, via the Ready Scotland website.
Community Assistance Directory
If you work or volunteer for an organisation in need of support or that is able to offer support to others in response to coronavirus, you can find and give help in this new official website which collates offers and requests of support from across the country.

We have created an events calendar in our guidance & support page in an attempt to capture any online events set up in response to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Scotland’s third sector.
