Stirling Housing Need Survey

We  received this announcement today Sept 2nd regarding the Stirling Housing Need Survey:

Residents are being invited to share their experiences and needs to help inform the future of housing across the Stirling area.

The Stirling Housing Need Survey launches today (Tuesday, 2 September) and views are being sought from residents across all types of tenures, including social tenants, owner occupiers and private renters.

Information from the survey will be used to plan for the number of homes that may be needed in future, set a target for affordable homes and areas of Stirling where new developments may be needed most and will inform a range of policies including the Local Housing Strategy and Local Development Plan. The survey is completely confidential and anonymous and will run for the next eight weeks. Survey partners Craigforth will be contacting a sample of residents directly via telephone in the coming month to request feedback.

Residents can also take the survey online at www.bit.ly/stirling-housing or by calling 0800 433 7212 (9-5 Mon-Fri, residents can leave a message outwith these hours). A printed format of the survey is also available by emailing survey@craigforth.co.uk or by calling the 0800 number.

Convener of the Community Wellbeing and Housing Committee, Cllr David Wilson, said: “Scottish Government guidance and best practice recommends a Housing Need survey is completed every five years and we really appreciate the input of our residents, including those who will be contacted directly by Craigforth.

“The survey findings will be vital in informing the area’s future housing plans, including the new Local Housing Strategy, to ensure the housing needs of all people across Stirling are met by the council and other partners. We are keen to include people from all parts of the population and we want to hear about their needs – and the needs of those who live with them. Everyone deserves to live in warm, safe homes and the survey is important to help us deliver on this key objective for the people of Stirling.”

Wildflower Planting Dumyat Sept 19/20th

We have received this from the Edinburgh University Forest and Peatland Programme Community Ranger:

I am getting in touch to share some upcoming volunteering opportunities in September, where we will be planting sticky catchfly and common rock-rose, which are locally important plants. We are working with Scottish Wildlife Trust Stirling and Clackmannanshire Local Group to increase the populations of these two plants.

On Friday 19 Sept we will have a full day activity (10am-3pm) and on Saturday 20 Sept will be a half day (10am-1pm) in a more accessible location. The activity will involve carrying plants and tools, walking on informal paths and rough ground and surveying the existing plants.

Proposed changes to the policy include:

  • Requirements of age and colour of taxi and private hire vehicles
  • Requirements relating to CCTV and dashcam equipment
  • Medical fitness standards for taxi and private hire vehicle drivers
  • Certification requirements for taxi drivers
  • Requirement of foreign conviction checks for taxi and private hire vehicle drivers.

The consultation is open until 24 September and can be completed via Stirling Council’s Engage Stirling platform.

Paper copies of the consultation can be obtained by contacting the Licensing team at civiclicensing@stirling.gov.uk or by popping into your local library or Customer First.

Play Park Survey

The 2021 Programme for Government made a commitment to provide £60 million to Local Authorities to renew play parks in Scotland. In this final year of that funding, the Scottish Government is now starting to look towards evaluation of the play park renewal programme, and to aid this, Play Scotland are hosting a public survey. We want to hear from families across Scotland about their local play parks and would be grateful if you could share the survey with your networks and via your social media channels to ensure as wide a reach as possible. The survey will close in September and should only take 5-10 minutes to complete.
