Royal Hotel Renovation

posted 18 Jan 2016, 06:27 by Communications TEAM

As you may be aware there are some planning applications currently lodged by the Royal Hotel for the renovation works that they are proposing. The original application (ref 15/00554) was for a major revamp and in particular replacing the current bar area on west side of building with a significant contemporary designed replacement lounge bar and roof garden.

On 11th Nov notification was published that the application had been refused by the Planning Officer on the basis that "The juxtaposition of the classical style of architecture with the modern proposed in a location which is so prominent would detract from the the Listed Building and Conservation Area requirements." In addition the Planning officer had a list of internal design features which were unsatisfactory.

The matter has now been referred to a Planning Panel which can potentially override the decision.

There is, however, now a revised planning application submitted by the Royal Hotel (ref 15/00828/LBC) which not only shows the revised proposals for the new lounge bar but also the external works proposals for the car parking. The images below are from the application but we would urge all those with an interest to visit the Stirling Council planning portal to view all the relevant documentation submitted.
