Please find attached Stirling Council’s proposals for Fountain Road improvement scheme. Representatives from the Community Council are meeting with Stirling Council to discuss the proposals and to walk Fountain Road to assess both the current issues and any other possible improvements that could be made.

The meeting is scheduled for 9.30am on 3rd December at the Allan Centre and members of the public are welcome to attend both the meeting & the walkabout.

The overall aims of the scheme are to improve pedestrian and cycle access and to reduce traffic speeds on Cornton Road

Summary of proposals

Sheet 1 - Westerton Drive to Fire Station

- widen footway on east side (past play park and houses)

- replace existing hatched areas at Fountain Roundabout with formal kerbed islands allowing pedestrian crossing

- new mini-roundabout at junction of Allanvale Road (particularly to help control speed of southbound vehicles)

Sheet 2 - Fire Station to Pavilion

- widen west footway to accommodate cycling and walking

- introduce kerbed buildouts to narrow carriageway and help change character of street

- tighter radius to side streets - for shorter pedestrian crossings and to encourage cars to slow

Sheet 3 - Pavilion to Pullar Avenue

- Toucan crossing at Pavilion

- tighter radius to side streets - for shorter pedestrian crossings and to encourage cars to slow

- introduce kerbed buildouts to narrow carriageway and help change character of street

Toucan - there is more than one possible site for a signalised crossing on this road. There are some notes to the righthand side of the drawing sheet.

Should this be the preferred option, the necessary adjustments can be made to the design along the west side and provide a simple uncontrolled crossing at the Pavilion instead.
