Bogus Workman Operating in The Area

posted 24 Feb 2015, 14:05 by Communications TEAM
Please be aware there is a bogus workman operating in the area. Please share this information if you can.

Here is a notification received today, Tuesday 24th February, from James Young, Community Inspector, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Wards

''Just to make you aware that there has been a bogus workman type incident in Clackmannanshire whereby two males have cold called on an 84 year old female asking to inspect her loft for dry rot. She has then allowed them entry and they have informed her that she had dry rot in her roof and they could fix it for £50,000. They produced a piece of rotten wood (which they probably took in with them) to show some rot. They then agreed to fix the roof for £2500 and this was only reported to the police when the elderly lady attended at the bank to withdraw the large amount of money. The cash teller thankfully questioned the transaction. The two culprits made off and enquiries are ongoing to trace them.

It is usual for bogus workmen to travel about so they could well chance their luck in your areas next. Can you please circulate this in your respective areas to warn people (especially the elderly) not to allow cold callers to access their houses and if they are concerned at all to contact the police immediately.''
