I wonder what Bridge of Allan is planning to do to mark COP meeting in Glasgow later in the year? Plant more trees? Increase recycling? Reduce air pollution? Reduce electricity use? In regards to the second last I am appalled by the number of cars parked with engines running, very bad for the atmosphere. An with regards to the last can someone explain why so many residents keep security lights burning all night? Sensors are easily available. Do we need some sort of project, maybe involving schools, to highlight ways in which everyone can make a contribution to fighting climate change?
On a completely different topic I feel,it is time for a new dog poo campaign. The dog owners of the community seem to be slipping from their normally high clean up standards.
Does the community council have any records of discussions about a potential min hydro power turbine at the weir
I Kongo W the late Bill Anderson tried hard to get this going but was thwarted I think by SEPA.
With even more climate change concerns and COP26 I wonder whether it is worth revisiting?
Hi Richard, Gavin Drummond saw your earlier question about the hydro power project and commented “Hi Richard The CC have asked me to respond to this query as the proposed project was looked at by the Civic Trust back in 2013 when I was CC Chair. It did not proceed for various reasons including issues highlighted by SEPA regarding potential flooding, complicated land ownership in the area of the weir and a low head of water along with fluctuating river levels which limited the amount of power that could be generated. Could the idea be revived. Personally I don’t think so. The previous issues remain and since then I think that I am correct in saying that there has been a marked reduction in the then very generous feed in tariff which would have applied resulting in the financial viability of any scheme being difficult to achieve. Any decision to re visit the scheme would be one for the CC and/or the Civic Trust. Hope these comments are helpful.”
Whether given recent changes in climate targets this could make the project more viable I don’t know, it would depend on the limitations identified initially. Perhaps Gavin has more of the documentation from the original project and could advise.

Why not look at a pump to create a jet pf watervas an attraction looking down water from. For those concerned about CO2 and climate change that they could set an example by holding their braethe for half an hour each day!!
